Oleg Alexandrovich Tretyakov, Ph.D.
Full Professor of Theoretical Radiophysics

Kharkiv, Ukraine, 2007.

My former Ph.D. advisor and long-term mentor Professor Oleg Tretyakov passed away on Tuesday, January 25th, 2022 in Istanbul, Turkey.

Very few people have influenced my life the way Professor Oleg Tretyakov did. With his vigorous teaching, I owed him what I am today. He had a decisive influence on my life and career. I salute you, Professor.

Having received his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in radiophysics, and the Doctor of Science degree in physics and mathematics from the National University of Kharkov, Professor Oleg Tretyakov headed the Theoretical Radiophysics Department at the V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University for a long period of time.

Professor Oleg A. Tretyakov has founded the main direction of scientific research in the field of time-domain electromagnetics. His evolutionary approach is based on the so-called The Method of Modal Basis, proposed by him in mid 80-‘s as a solid framework for analysis of transient electromagnetic phenomena in closed and open domain problems.

At the age of 60, he moved to Turkey upon invitation from the Gebze Technical University, and he successfully worked there as a visiting professor from July 10th, 1998 to December 31st, 2020, for more than two decades.

He devoted the last years of his life to the proposing of “A novel simple format of Maxwell’s equations in SI units” published in IEEE Access in June 2021, and also published as a book chapter titled “Innovative tools for SI units in solving various problems of electrodynamics” in IET book “Advances in Mathematical Methods for Electromagnetics” in 2021.

He was the Chairman of Commission B of the International Union of Radio Science (URSI) National Committee of Ukraine, and a Member of the IEEE.

Though Professor may have left this world, his legacies and contributions to electromagnetics will live forever.

I pray that your soul finds peace, and may the Almighty Creator reward you for your good deeds.

I’ll miss you, Dear Professor Tretyakov.
